PADA Residency, Barreiro, Portugal

'Set in a derelict industrial park with a history dating back to 1885, PADA offers artists time and space to develop their practice through the exploration of technique and process. The residency at PADA welcomes applications from artists in a variety of media for a duration of 1-2 months. We offer artists the possibility to explore practices, concepts, new ideas and materials and to develop a project whilst receiving feedback and support.'

Salad Days, End of residency exhibition

Artists include: Kinga Bartis, Gabriel Carucci, Iona Hutley, Lizzy Langford, Sorcha McNamara, Sophia Pauley, Javier Placido, Sophie White

'Throughout the month of October, the artists at PADA found a common interest in exploring matter in essence. The exhibition Salad Days highlights the idea of innocence, enthusiasm and idealism. Indiscrete modes of working alongside simple and raw materials expose a desire to go back to central elements of making. The use an adaptation of natural elements unites varied practices. Traditional woodcarving and stucco work compliments the crisp geometry of welded steel. The experimentation with newly discovered natural pigments parallels the recycled materials, salvaged and repurposed. These conversations, revealed within the exhibition, allow an interplay between the artworks and greater appreciation of each individual work.'
